Illustration Friday

I've joined a new weekly blog project.  It's called Illustration Friday and I didn't really join it for me.  The concept is that each friday they will post a new theme and sometime during the week the theme will be illustrated and posted to the site.  Now I'm not much of an artist like the other people on this blog, but my daughters are on their way so I have joined for them.  Above is the theme for this week, CARS.  The top picture is by Bug and the bottom is Bit's entry.  I can't wait to see what next week's theme will be.

I mentioned in the last post that I wanted to talk about the music my kids like.  I have a couple of reasons for this.  1. I'd love to know what music other people's kids listen to, in order to get some ideas.  2.  I'm pretty impressed with my kids when it comes to how they appreciate music.

This week was the last week of school, yesterday was the last day.  As part of the last week festivities Bug was invited to bring a cd of her choice to class so they could listen while they played games and read books.  Bug didn't want to just get a cd she likes and take it in, she wanted to make a mix cd of all the things she enjoys.  We've done this before so she could take it to jazz class. 

Bug made me play a snip of every song in my library that didn't have explicit language so she could pick.  I have over 2000 songs.  Here's a selection of songs that she chose to take to school.

Three Blind Mice

Today was Bitty's Kindergarten Music Program and Awards Assembly.  She was awarded the certificate for merit in art and also given a certificate for her winning Reflections art project.  We already knew she was an artist.

We videotaped the entire assembly but it isn't really all that interesting.  We had a very poor vantage point.  I would like to share a few minutes of the music program though because I am a very proud Mommy.

BuzzBuzzBuzz

Tomorrow is the last day of teacher appreciation week so I made beads.  The Girlies' school mascot is the Bee so I did my best to make beads that look like bees.  I have attached these bee beads to book marks for the girls to take to school tomorrow.

I hope the teachers will like them.  Bug has been very excited about me making something for her teachers.  She is so good for my self esteem, that Buggy.

Dancing Queens

This weekend was the Girlies' third annual spring dance recital.  If you haven't noticed before, I have some dancing daughters over here, so recital is a BIG deal.  Bitty, who is nearly 6, has been taking ballet/tap for 3 years now.  She is still considered to be "preschool" according to the ballet studio so she is in the first section at the recital.  Next year she will move up and no longer be a preschool ballerina.  Her group was called Celtic Maidens and they were wonderful.

Bug is closing in on 8 and she has been taking ballet for 3 years, jazz for 2 years, and tap for a year.  All of these classes meant that she had three dance in yesterday's recital which meant for a very busy day.  Her first dance was in the second section and was called Spanish Roses.

Her class did an excellent job with their Spanish fan dance ballet.  I was amazed at how far she has come with her ballet.  In the third section Bug did tap, which her studio calls "Theatrical Movement" and jazz.  Her tap class danced to Will Smith's Wild Wild West and they were so fun to watch.  Bug is the youngest in her class by at least a couple of years but she held her own pretty well.  I was impressed.

Four the third and final dance for Miss Bug she did jazz.  This years' jazz was actually disco and it was so very funny.  Bug is the oldest in that class and all the little ones doing their jive disco was just great to watch.

It was a crazy busy day for me as well.  I chaperoned all of Bug's dance classes backstage.  The main rason for this was Bug's need to change clothes very very fast as her tap and jazz classes only had two dances between them and she needed to being wearing entirely different costumes for the two.  I also had to assist with the double french braiding of all of the other members of her jazz class as their teacher was really set on this rather hard to manage hairstyle for all of them. I'm very happy with how the day turned out and am amazingly proud of how wonderful my little dancer girls are.  They get better each and every day.  If you'd like to see more pics I will put some of them here and I have also set up a Dance photo album you can find in my sidebar.
