My Only Sunshine

We did it!

The new landscaping is finally finished in my front yard.  It took us FAR longer then we had planned due to many other things needing to be done and some crazy weird spring weather here in Texas.  Yesterday thefour of us went out in the front yard and we kept working until it was done.
Bug and Bit were very helpful but Buster did the vast majority of the heavy lifting and he was the one who kept us going when we got sick of doing the work.  I'm glad he did because it's finally done and I think it looks great.  Just the way I wanted it to look, and it's just going to get better as it grows.

The yard isn't the only thing I have finished.  Check out Bit's new sweater.  I finished the Craftster Circular Shrug late last week and Bitty was able to wear it on Saturday with her new skirt that her Nana bought for her. The shrug took too two balls of Cascade 220 in a heathered light purple.

Now I need to get back to my ballet costume alterations.  I have volunteered to help a friend with her kids' costumes because she doesn't sew.

This is Bug's ballet costume.  She will be a Spanish Rose.  One down, many more to go.  Wish me luck.

We're home and getting back on track

I'm sure you've noticed I haven't been posting much, but I have pretty good reason.

Reason 1

These are Sweet Mary Janes from piddleloop.  I knit them large so that I could felt them a little which would make them softer, denser, and warmer.  After I felted them I crocheted on the edging and since then I have added buttons.  I love them.  They are warm and comfy and colorful.  They have been such a hit at my house that Bitty has already decreed that I will make some for her that are pink and purple so she can sleep in them.  When I told her I didn't have the right yarn she said, "You can go get it tomorrow while I am at school."  She has an answer for everything.

Reason 2

This is the Craftster Circular Shrug I am making for the aforementioned knit wanting Bit.  It's being knit in a tweedy soft purple Cascade 220 and since this photo I have joined the second ball.  I am thinking two balls should be enough.  Bit is just a tiny little person, for a big old 5 year old.

Reason 3

You got it, I started ANOTHER hobby.  It's crazy, I know.  I mentioned that I had buttons for those mary janes up top.  Here they are.

They are hand wound glass beads.  I've taken up lampworking and I love it.

Now we are a little more caught up. Maybe with that I will have a better chance of staying up to date.

Where I've Been... two weeks in pictures

I've had requests.  Yes, that's right, requests to post more.  Ok, so they are family members, not adoring fans, but still.  So here it is, the life of a crafty mommy, a geologist, a granddad, and two little pumpkins... in pictures.

Last week we went to California.  Dude had to be at the AAPG convention in Long Beach so we went along for a little vacation.  We took my Dad along who sponsored a trip to Disneyland that was great fun.  It was the Girlies first trip to an amusement park and they loved it.  The part they liked best was just walking through Mickey and Minnie's houses.  Kids are so funny.  We also got to spend time at the beach which was wonderful fun just for the sake of watching my kids' unbridled joy.  The rest of the trip involved eating, swimming, movie watching, sightseeing, Aquarium of the Pacificing (that isn't a word, is it?), etc.

We had a fabulous time and came home with ears.  Everyone should probably have some Mickey and/or Minnie ears at some point in their lives.

Now Grandad wants you to look over there.
